Campbell a Mid-Season Hendricks Candidate
Kansas State defensive end Ian Campbell was one of 33 players named to the Mid-Season Watch List for the 2008 Ted Hendricks Award, the foundation announced. The award is presented annually to college football's top defensive end.
Campbell, the only returning two-time First Team All-Big 12 selection in the league this season, currently ranks sixth in school history with 20.5 career sacks and has compiled 37.5 tackles for loss in his career.
The Cimarron native, who is also a two-time team captain and Bednarik and Nagurski Award candidate, has recorded 37 total tackles this season, including 8.5 for losses, with 4.5 sacks and two blocked kicks. Campbell recorded his best game of the 2008 season against Louisiana, carding 11 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pass break up against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award’s list of 33 players will be shortened to include five or six finalists in the final weeks of the season, and the final vote will be concluded on Dec. 3. The 2008 Hendricks Award winner will be announced Dec. 10.
